The Monastery Of Gai Arad

The “Sfântul Simion Stâlpnicul” Monastery or the “Brace Monastery”

In the north-west area of Arad, in the Gai district, at the end of the Dunării Street rises one of the most representative monuments from the 17th century in the western part of the country, the “Sfântul Simion Stâlpnicul” Monastery. The monastery was built from 1760 to 1762 by the bishop Sinesie Jivanovici (1751-1768), for his eternal mentioning and for the purpose of being used by his successors in the bishop seat of Arad. The monastery is an architectural complex made of a manor (the residence of the bishop), a church and household buildings. The church represented a house of worship for a large number of believers from the neighbourhood. The complex,  to the request of its founder, bishop Sinesie, was built in baroque style.
