The Monastery of Hodos-Bodrog

Several eastern monasteries survived in the XIth -XIIIth centuries: Geled, Ahtummonostura, Prodanmonostura, Kenezmonostura and the hermitages of Minis and Mocrea, etc.

It was in this context that the Monastery of Hodos-Bodrog was first recorded in a document: it is mentioned in the chartulary of the Arad chapter, dated 1177 at the latest. Unquestionable documents dated 1216, 1233 and 1278 mention its existence in the following period. The present church of the monastery was built around 1370 according to a triconch plan, at a time when this achitectonic type was spreading in all the provinces inhabited by Romanians.
