The Transylvanian basin is bordered by the Eastern Carpathians on the east. One part of these mountains is the Ceahlau Mountains, which is often referred to as the gem of Moldova. 

Those who want to hike in Transylvania should definitely make a trip to these mountains since they are very close to famous places like Lake Rosu, the Bicaz Pass, Lake Bicaz and Borsec.

The so-called - thousand-year-old border - lies by the western side of the Ceahlau Mountains. The remains of the frontier barracks can be found in Tulghes, Bicazu Ardelean and Zona Ghimesului.

The highest peak of the Ceahlau Mountains is Toka at 1900 meters, which offers a breathtaking view. The mountain is separated from the Bistrita Mountains by Kis-Beszterce on the north, from the Esztena Mountains by the Bicaz reservoir on the east and from the Tarcau Mountains by the Bicaz Valley on the south.
