Only 20 kms far from Bicaz town, Bica Keys represents one of the most attractive touristic area of the country. They are situated in the central part of Hăşmaş Mountains, they belong to the Eastern Carpathians and they are delimitated on North and North-West by Suhardul Mare ( the Big Suhard) (1506 metres) and at South-East by Suhardul Mic (the Small Suhard) (1352 metres).
These unite Neamţ and Harghita counties. The keys, 8kms long, are situated between Lacu Roşu Resort and Bicazu Ardelean and are formed of Bicaz river and its affluents (the most important being Bicăjelul) and bounds Tranylvania from Moldavia.
The area is crossed by the transcarpathian road DN12C that bound Gheorgheni town by Bicaz. The entire the road is formed of windings of an exquisite beauty. The limestone walls and the rocks hide extremely beautiful caves ( The Black Cave, The Waterfall Cave) and swallow holes (Licas, The Three Enters Hole). All the small affluent waters of Bicaz form other keys like: Lapos Keys, Sugău Keys and Bicăjel Keys.
On the way we can admire The Altar’s Stone – a rocky mountain of 1120 metres altitude, the rocky mountains Pinteşi Stone(847m) and The Heat Stone (835m). Among other special rocks of the area we can mention Surduc Stone, The Stone Gate and Bardos Policies.
From Bicaz Keys we can travel to Saua Cupas (1275m), Căpuşeni, Saua Tifrea (1002m), Poieni Stone(1125m),Bicajeni Keys, Sugău Keys, etc. On the windings Keys way there are small souvenir shops with handmade products made by the craftmen of the area. These products give something special to these places having an emotional impact on the torists impressed by the beauty of the landscape, the merchants trying to sell small souvenirs to the turists.
Because of their impressive size, Cheile Bicazului/Bicaz Keys, represent a real touristic attraction, with spectacular landscapes and a lot of entertainment possibilities. The Keys were dug by the waters of Bicaz in the limestone of Hăşmaş Mountains on a 6 kms length and about 300m depth, in a mountain area dominated by vertical rock walls, a mountain vegetation and special landscapes.
There are in Cheile Bicazului places waiting to be discovered, wild and exquisite lanscapes hidden behind the rocky walls that seem to meet each other in the sky. The very narrow valley, the waterfalls, isolated rocks, the opening of the caves and the rocky walls, all these form together these pitoresque legendary places that imress us through their unique beauties. This unknown face of these places can be admired by the tourists wanting for adventure, the area being crossed by many hidden paths on which we can get up there.
