Turda Unitarian Church Turda

In 1568, the Unitarian religion declares its founding of the Roman Catholic Church of Saint Mary of Turda, the place where the first edict of religious tolerance from medieval Europe is promulgated. In a few years the Unitarian religion develops, establishing schools and taking over the churches of the Roman Catholic confession. This phenomenon has happened in Turda as well.

With the Catholic Counter-reformation, the Unitarians have to assign the churches, but they have the right to built new ones. In Turda, in the area where were the Unitarian school buildings, between 1784-1787, the present Unitarian church is built.

The church on Daciei Street, no. 3, was built by the master bricklayer Janos Sandor from Moldovenesti commune - a village near Turda. On one of the walls of an annex of the church is preserved the inscription "MUSISET VIRTUTI BUS SACRUM MDCCCLXV". The bell tower was erected between the years 1801-1809.
